Sealing your grout is important to keeping it from being stained.

As you can see from our testing it is important to seal your grout.  Only one sealer the tile guard silicone grout sealer performed so poorly that we can not recommend ever using this sealer.  All of the other sealers did protect the grout to varying degrees that made sealing at least worth while.

From our testing it also shows that it is important to clean up any dirt and spills as soon as they land on the grout.  Even the best performing grout sealer will not completely protect the grout from becoming stained if certain types of dirt and spills are allowed to sit on the grout overnight.

Most of our testing results did seem to fall in with expectations and sealer reputations in the tile and grout industry.  Our testing results did reveal some surprising results though.

  • The Tile Guard Silicone Grout Sealer performed extremely bad and almost provided no sealer protection.

  • The Miracle 511 Impregnator also performed very poorly for such a highly touted solvent based sealer.

  • The high priced, extremely high VOC Drytreat Stainproof failed to live up to its reputation as a sealer that works any better then some of the consumer level sealers in our tests.

  • It looks like the older Fluoropolymer based sealant technologies time has come as this type of sealer did not perform as well as some of the newer sealant technologies.

  • From out testing the highly rated Aqua Mix Sealers Choice Gold lived up to its reputation as one of the best sealer on the market today.  This water based sealer has the newest microbond technology and it performed better then any of the other sealers in our tests.

  • The one quart container will seal approximately 200 sq/ft of grout with 12 inch tiles and normal 1/8 inch grout joints.

  • The Stonetech Bulletproof Tile and Grout sealer which also has the new water based microbond technology also did well in our testing as a high quality water based sealer with the newest microbond technology.  The stonetech bulletproof does have a lot lower VOC level than the Aquamix Sealers Choice gold so it may be the preferred choice for people who are sensitive to chemical odors.

  • The one quart container will seal approximately 200 sq/ft of grout with 12 inch tiles and normal 1/8 inch grout joints.
